Green Initiative
The Buffalo Niagara Convention Center is proud to be a part of “Green and Mean It,” the Buffalo green hospitality initiative. The focus of this initiative is to promote a green experience for travelers and conventioneers in Western New York. The expectation is that hospitality-related companies and organizations will look at all areas of their operations and make efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.
The Buffalo Niagara Convention Center participates in the following practices:
- Plastic, cans, bottles, cardboard, paper and kitchen grease are recycled
- We encourage the use of “bulk” food and beverage products
- We use recycled products in concessions
- We regularly participate in the local composting of food
- We do not use Styrofoam products
- We use energy-efficient lighting
- 5% of the electrical load is USEPA certified green power
- Light bulbs are energy-saving products
- Unused foods are donated to local food banks and shuttles
- Restrooms have automatic faucets and soap dispensers and toilets are water conserving
- We use china, silverware and linen for our food events
- Meeting room temperatures are adjusted based on the level of business so when rooms are not in use, energy is reduced
- We use water stations in our meeting rooms
- We purchase recyclable products and goods
- We use environmentally-friendly cleaning products
- We use environmentally-friendly office supplies
- We purchase in bulk
- Trees have been planted to offset electricity used at events
- Food is purchased from local sources whenever possible
- We recycle printer cartridges
